Is $250 a Session Worth It? What Vancouver Personal Training Actually Buys

Last updated: August 28, 2026

By David Turnbull, TurnFit Founder & Head Coach

TL;DR: Vancouver 1-on-1 in-person training typically runs $180–$350 a session. TurnFit’s published 1-on-1 rate starts at $250. On the live table, the effective rate is about $196 at 1x/week and $147 at 5x/week (1-month plans). Training with me is $250–$350 a session. Online coaching starts at $300/month. We are not the cheapest trainers in Vancouver, and we are not trying to be. Hire us for posture-first, pain-aware coaching plus programming, nutrition, and support between sessions. How much does a personal trainer cost in Vancouver?

The range we publish in our 2026 Kitsilano guide is $180–$350 per session for 1-on-1 in-person coaching. Small group costs less per person. Online is a monthly fee. The low end is usually a busier trainer; the high end should mean a real assessment, a program for your joints, and a coach who still answers between sessions.

TurnFit publishes the table. Private training starts at $250 per session. Frequency changes the effective rate. 1-month numbers from turnfit.ca/pricing:

Sessions / week1-month totalEffective per session
1x$783.75~$196
2x$1,443.75~$180
3x$1,903.75~$159
4x$2,443.75~$153
5x$2,943.75~$147
TurnFit Vancouver 1-on-1 pricing table. 1x/week $783.75 (~$196/session) through 5x/week $2,943.75 (~$147/session). Sticker rate $250.

Longer commitments take more off: 5% at 3 months, 10% at 6 months, 20% at 1 year. That is a rate, not a lock-in. There is no long-term contract. You can pause or cancel.

Founder coaching (working with me) is limited, at $250–$350 per session. 2-on-1 is a custom quote — same method, shared hour. Online starts at $300/month for Support-Only (programming, nutrition, app messaging). Bronze / Silver / Gold add live Zoom; the published floor is $300.

Same pricing at Kitsilano (3311 W Broadway, V6R 2B1) and Downtown (180 W Georgia St, V6B 4P4). A cheap session with no assessment and a 12-pack on the first call is a different product. Compare the product, not just the hour.

What does $250 a session actually buy?

You are not buying 60 minutes of someone counting reps. If that is all you get, $250 is a bad deal. A 1-on-1 plan includes:

  • A program built for you — not the circuit we ran at 7 a.m. for someone else
  • Real-time coaching and exercise correction — load, setup, and why that movement is in your session
  • Nutrition guidance and habit support — not a crash diet
  • Progress tracking and plan adjustments as your body or schedule changes
  • Coach access between sessions — the hour in the studio is not the whole job

The method underneath is mindset, nutrition, movement, and recovery. Posture-first is not extra copy. Most plateaus I see in Vancouver start with how someone sits and loads their joints all day, then tries to smash a workout on top.

This is not physiotherapy, and it does not replace it. Acute injury, unexplained neurological symptoms, or a condition that needs a clinician — start with a physician or physiotherapist. We screen movement, train around old injuries and desk-job stiffness, and treat pain as information, not as something to push through for a photo. Rehab and prehab are a specialty here. Specialty is not a license.

Before you pay for a package: a 5-minute intro call, and if it is a fit, a 30-minute Zoom game-plan. No contract on that call. We do not sell a bundle before anyone has watched you move — a red flag we call out in the Kitsilano how-to-choose guide.

Why does the effective rate drop when you train more than once a week?

Because the expensive version of personal training is the one you do once a week, forget by Thursday, and restart every January.

One session a week is ~$196. Two is ~$180. Three is ~$159. One coached hour can clean up a pattern. It cannot overwrite 40 hours of sitting. At 2–3x/week, more of the week is on-plan. You are buying a system, and systems are cheaper per session when they actually run.

The 3 / 6 / 12-month discounts work the same way. The site puts retention in public: clients stay 26+ months on average, and 80% stick with us long-term. I would rather give a better rate to someone who is going to train than inflate a drop-in price and churn. Once a week is available. It is not the same product as 2–3x.

Is a cheap trainer more expensive?

Often, yes. Not because expensive automatically means good — it does not — but because the cheap hour is usually missing the parts that make the hour worth having.

The Vancouver pattern:

  1. The unused gym membership. You keep paying for a club you do not use. A cheap trainer who never assesses you does not redeem that.
  2. No assessment, then a package. A 12-session bundle before they have seen you squat, hinge, or stand is volume, not a plan.
  3. One program for every body. Desk-job back, 45-year-old knees, someone who already lifts — same circuit.
  4. No answer to “why is this in my program?” If they cannot tie the exercise to your body, you are renting company.
  5. A contract you have to fight to leave. We do not do that. If the first week is wrong, the 7-day risk-free trial is a full refund. Pause or cancel after that. No penalty.

A cheap trainer becomes expensive when you pay for three months, stay in pain, quit, then hire someone competent to undo it. The ROI number I trust is not a six-week photo. It is 26+ months. People do not stay that long if the sessions are a bad purchase.

One of our clients, Isabel, trained on her own 4–5 times a week for a year and did not get the change she wanted. After one session of posture work she could feel her core and glutes fire. That is what the hour is for.

Who should not hire TurnFit?

I would rather lose you on the 5-minute call than take a month of your money and have you resent it.

Do not hire us if you want the lowest rate in Vancouver (we are not the cheapest, and we say so on the homepage); you want a six-week transformation, then you want us to disappear; you will not do work between sessions; you need a clinician, not a coach (acute injury or red-flag pain — start with a physician or physiotherapist); you want to skip the assessment and buy a pack today; or you want to hide in a class.

If you are a busy professional, a woman over 40 building a strength reserve, or someone with desk-job stiffness or an old injury who needs the program to respect that — in-person personal training is built for that list.

How do I know if it is worth it for me?

Run the number against the alternative you are actually living, not a fantasy $0 version of yourself who suddenly becomes consistent.

Probably worth it if you have already paid for a gym you underuse, you have already tried training alone, your back/neck/hips complain after a Vancouver desk day, or you are past 40 and you care more about staying strong than about a 12-week photo. The expensive choice then is another year of almost.

Probably not if you will cancel the second work gets busy, you want us to “just tell me what to eat” and then ignore it, or you are shopping purely on per-session price.

Before you spend anything: book a free 5-minute intro call. If it makes sense, we do the 30-minute Zoom game-plan. Pick a frequency from the live table you will actually keep, and use the 7-day risk-free trial. If the first week is wrong, request the refund.

I am a BCRPA-registered personal trainer. I built this company after being the overweight, bullied kid who later wrecked his back on a couch in a computer job. I need the people who train with us to know what they bought.

We have coached 1,800+ people, hold a 4.9 Google rating (245+ reviews on the homepage), and have won the Top Choice Award 8 years running.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a personal trainer cost in Vancouver?

Expect $180–$350 per session for 1-on-1 in-person training. TurnFit starts at $250 per session. 1-month plans run $783.75/month at 1x/week (~$196/session) through $2,943.75/month at 5x/week (~$147/session). Founder coaching is $250–$350 per session. Online starts at $300/month.

Why is TurnFit $250 a session if the table shows $147–$196?

$250 is the 1-on-1 headline and the floor of founder coaching. The table is preferred pricing by frequency. 3-, 6-, and 12-month commitments add 5%, 10%, and 20% off. Same coaches, same method — the unit price falls when you train enough for the method to work.

Does TurnFit require a long-term contract?

No. You can pause or cancel with no penalties. Longer commitments get a better rate; they are not a lock-in. Every plan includes a 7-day risk-free trial with a full refund if you are not satisfied in the first week.

What is included besides the workout?

Customized programming, real-time correction, nutrition and habit support, progress tracking, and coach access between sessions. In-person at Kitsilano (3311 W Broadway) and Downtown (180 W Georgia St), plus online across Canada.

Is personal training a substitute for physiotherapy?

No. TurnFit is personal training with a posture-first, pain-aware method. We screen movement and train around old injuries and desk-job stiffness. Clinical diagnosis, acute injury care, and physiotherapy belong with licensed clinicians.

How do I start without buying a package first?

Book a free 5-minute intro call. If we are a fit, that leads to a 30-minute Zoom game-plan. You see the plan before you commit. No contract on those calls.

If the number still feels high, that is useful information

$250 a session is a lot of money. I will not pretend otherwise. It is a lot of money on purpose: a coach who is not stacking clients on the hour, a program that starts with how you move, and a relationship that — for most of our people — lasts a couple of years, not a couple of weeks.

If that is what you want, look at the full pricing table, then book a free 5-minute intro call. Bring the goal, the injury history, and the calendar you actually have. We will tell you whether TurnFit is worth it, whether 2-on-1 or online is the better spend, or whether you should take the money somewhere else. 7-day trial. No contracts.
