How Much Does a Personal Trainer Cost in Vancouver? (Real 2026 Prices)

By David Turnbull, owner of TurnFit Personal Trainers Ltd. · Last updated: October 29, 2026

Short answer: A private session with a City of Vancouver community centre trainer is $65.98, and gyms and studios vary. At TurnFit, private 1-on-1 starts at $250 a session, or about $147 to $196 a session on a monthly plan of 1 to 5 sessions a week. Online coaching starts at $349 a month CAD, plus 5% tax.

So, how much does a personal trainer cost in Vancouver? If you have searched this, you have probably seen prices all over the map. One site says $60. Another won’t show a price at all. You just want to know what is fair before you hand over your card.

I get it. Many women I’ve coached told me they put off this question for months. They were tired of feeling stiff, sore or stuck, but they didn’t want to get talked into something. So here is the honest answer, with real numbers.

Who is this guide for?

  • You want to know what a Vancouver personal trainer actually costs before you reach out.
  • You’re comparing value, not just price, and want to know what’s included.
  • You’re deciding between in-person and online coaching.

How much does a personal trainer cost in Vancouver?

I’ve coached since 2011, and the price question has not changed much. What changes is what you get for the money. Here are the main options around the city. Gym and studio prices vary a lot, so ask each one for the full monthly cost.

OptionRough costWhat you usually get
City community centre$65.98 for one private session (City of Vancouver rate, plus tax)A trainer for set sessions. Simple, low cost, shared space.
Big gym or chainVaries; often less than a private studio, plus membershipWorkouts in a busy gym. Coach quality can vary a lot.
Private studioVaries; ask for the full monthly costA quieter space and more focus on you.
Premium 1-on-1 (TurnFit)From $250 a session; about $147 to $196 a session on a weekly planA full plan, form coaching, nutrition help, tracking and coach access between sessions.
Online coaching (TurnFit)$349 to $799 a month CAD, plus 5% taxA program, nutrition help, app check-ins, and live calls on some plans.

Ours are on the TurnFit pricing page, out in the open.

Why do personal trainer prices vary so much?

A lower price is not a trick, and a higher price is not always better. The price gap mostly comes from five things.

  • Time with you. One coach and one client costs more than one coach and six people.
  • Time without you. Some coaches only show up for the hour. Others plan, check in, fix your food and adjust your program between sessions.
  • Experience. A coach who has seen hundreds of sore backs and stiff hips will spot things faster.
  • The space. A private studio costs more to run than a corner of a big gym.
  • How often you train. At most places, more sessions a week means a lower price per session.

What do TurnFit’s prices look like?

Here are our 1-on-1 prices, copied from our pricing page. Private training starts at $250 a session. The more you train, and the longer you commit, the better your rate.

Plan1 monthPer session
1x / week$783.75~$196/session
2x / week$1,443.75~$180/session
3x / week$1,903.75~$159/session
4x / week$2,443.75~$153/session
5x / week$2,943.75~$147/session

The price is the same at our Kitsilano and downtown studios.

Longer plans save more: 5% off for 3 months, 10% off for 6 months, and 20% off for 1 year. For example, 1x a week for 1 year is $7,524.00. If you want to train with me, David, it is $250–$350 per session, based on how often you train and for how long.

Why does the price per session drop when I train more?

One hour a week can clean up how you move. It can’t undo 40 hours of sitting. When you train 2 or 3 times a week, more of your week is on the plan, and change comes faster. So we would rather give a better rate to someone who will show up than charge a high drop-in price. Once a week still works. It is just a slower road.

Online plans, in CAD plus 5% tax: Coaching is $349 a month and is support-only: custom programming, nutrition help and app messaging, with no calls. Bronze is $449 (2 live video calls a month). Silver is $599 (1 live video call a week). Gold is $799 (2 live video calls a week). Calls are one-on-one on Google Meet, up to 45 minutes each. Learn more on our online personal training page.

Is a cheap personal trainer more expensive in the end?

Sometimes, yes. Not because a high price means good. It doesn’t always. But a cheap hour often leaves out the parts that make the hour worth it. Many women I’ve coached spent a lot before they came in, just on things that didn’t fit them. Watch for these red flags:

  • A package before anyone has seen you move. Twelve sessions sold before a trainer watches you squat, bend or stand is not a plan.
  • One workout for every body. A sore back, 45-year-old knees and a seasoned lifter should not get the same circuit.
  • No answer to “why is this in my program?” If they can’t tie a move to your body, you are paying for company.
  • A gym pass you don’t use. A trainer who never checks in won’t fix that.
  • A contract that is hard to leave. Ask about the cancel rules before you pay.

The cheap path gets expensive when you pay for three months, stay sore, quit, and then pay someone else to undo it. The best deal is the plan you stick with that doesn’t hurt you.

How can I get started at home before I pay a trainer?

You don’t need to spend a cent to start. Try these for two weeks. They will also help you know what you want from a coach.

  1. Walk most days. Ten to twenty minutes is fine. Note how your back, hips and knees feel.
  2. Do three simple moves, three times a week. Sit to stand from a chair, a wall push-up, and a glute bridge on the floor. Do 8 to 10 slow reps of each.
  3. Check your desk. Screen at eye height, feet flat, and get up once an hour.
  4. Write down what bugs you. Stiff neck? Sore low back? Out of breath on stairs? This list is gold on your first call.
  5. Set your budget. Decide what you can spend each month without stress. A good coach will work with that number.

When should I see a doctor or physio before a trainer?

A trainer builds strength. A doctor or physio checks what is going on inside. You can do both. See your doctor or a physio first (more in Do I Need a Physio or a Personal Trainer After 40?) if you have:

  • Sharp or new pain, or pain that wakes you at night
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness in an arm or leg
  • Pain after a fall or accident
  • Chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath that is new to you
  • A recent surgery or a health condition you are being treated for

Who should not hire a premium trainer yet?

I would rather lose you on a 5-minute call than take your money and have you regret it. TurnFit is probably not for you yet if:

  • Paying for training would stress your budget. Start with the home steps above, a community centre trainer, or our online plan.
  • You want the lowest hourly rate in town. We are not the cheapest, and we don’t try to be.
  • You want a six-week quick fix and then you’re done.
  • You need a doctor or physio first for new or sharp pain.

What should I ask on the free call?

On the call, I’ll ask what you want to change, what hurts, and how your week looks. You should ask me what’s included, how often you would train, and what it costs per month. If we are not the right fit, I’ll tell you.

Here is how it works. First, a free 5-minute call. If we look like a fit, you send posture photos and do a short movement screen. Then I send you a short video about what I see. After that, I book a free 30-minute phone call with you to talk through a plan. We never sell a package before we know your body and your goals.
