Proven on-site in Burnaby: 150+ staff at an oil refinery

At a Burnaby oil refinery, TurnFit’s personal training team worked alongside a nurse and a dietitian to design programs for more than 150 staff. Training ran Monday to Friday over a couple of months. The work happened on site, where people work, and the programs were planned together with health professionals, not handed out as a generic routine.

That’s how we approach every Burnaby program. We come to your site, fit into your schedule and your existing health and safety setup, and design training for the people who will actually be doing it.

Why Burnaby employers are moving from gym subsidies to on-site coaching

Many Burnaby teams split time between office and home, or work shifts that make an after-work gym visit unlikely. Gym subsidies and app licences look good on a benefits sheet, but most employees don’t use them. Nobody books the session, nobody coaches it, and nobody notices when someone stops going. (More in why unused gym memberships don’t fix corporate wellness.)

On-site coaching puts training into the working day. The coach is on site, sessions are in calendars, and someone notices when people miss them. For a side-by-side comparison, see on-site training vs gym memberships vs wellness apps.

What your Burnaby program can include

  • A fixed on-site schedule. Three days a week (Mon/Wed/Fri is common) for smaller teams, up to Monday–Friday for large workforces, as at the refinery. For hybrid offices, we match your anchor days.
  • Leadership sessions. Executives train 2-on-1 in back-to-back sessions, or 1:1 if they prefer privacy. Their slots are booked around standing meetings.
  • Staff 2-on-1 and small groups. Staff train in pairs or small groups by schedule and fitness level. You get real coaching per person at a lower cost per head than 1:1.
  • Programs designed with your health team. If you have a nurse, dietitian or occupational health staff, we plan with them, as we did at the refinery.
  • Chat support on remote and off days. On days we’re not on-site, your team can chat with their coaches and follow a clear plan for workouts and nutrition. Fully remote employees can join through TurnFit’s online coaching.

Start small, then extend

Burnaby companies rarely commit to a long program on day one, and they don’t have to. Here’s how we usually start:

  1. Pick who takes part. The leadership team, one department, one shift, or the whole site.
  2. Start with a short initial contract, for example one month, on your real schedule with the coaches who will stay with you.
  3. Review together with HR, and with your health staff if they’re involved. Then decide whether to extend, change the format or expand.
  4. Extend and grow. Longer contracts, more people or more days as the program proves itself.

That’s how our Richmond biotech lab program grew. The lab started with one month, moved to three, and has kept extending. It’s now nine months and counting. Want the HR playbook for rolling a program out internally? Read how to launch a workplace wellness initiative employees actually use.

Corporate pricing

Whether you’re training a leadership team three days a week or a whole site Monday to Friday, pricing is hourly and transparent.

  • Commitments under one month: $350 per coach hour
  • Commitments of one month or more: $250 per coach hour

Both rates include:

  • Chat support with your coaches on the days they’re not on-site
  • Programs designed around your team’s nutrition and workouts, so everyone knows exactly what to do and when

Example: a four-hour on-site block with one coach, like our Richmond lab’s Monday/Wednesday/Friday day covering 10 executives in 2-on-1 sessions, is $1,000 at the $250 rate (4 coach hours × $250). Five back-to-back 48-minute sessions fill the block, two executives at a time.

A one-month starting contract already qualifies for the $250 rate. For larger sites, book a consult and we’ll work out the coach hours your schedule needs.

Logistics for Burnaby offices, campuses and industrial sites

  • Industrial and refinery sites. We plan around shift start and end times and site rules. Sessions focus on the strength and mobility physical work needs.
  • Office towers (Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed). A tenant fitness room (if the building allows outside trainers), a boardroom or a training room all work.
  • Business parks and campus-style buildings. An in-house gym is ideal. If there isn’t one, an open room and minimal equipment is enough.
  • Onboarding. Each participant does an intake and health questionnaire and a movement assessment, then gets an individual program. Standard programs start 2–3 weeks after the first conversation. We handle scheduling and the communication to your staff.
  • Scope. We’re certified trainers, not physicians. We coach around injuries and ask for medical clearance when it’s appropriate.

Who we work with in Burnaby

Our on-site programs are built for the HR, People or health and safety lead who owns wellness, the office, facilities or site manager who has to make it work on the ground, and the executives who need training scheduled into their week.

  • Energy, refining and heavy-industry sites
  • Manufacturing, logistics and warehouse operations with shift schedules
  • Tech, software and game studios with hybrid teams
  • Engineering, construction and professional services firms
  • Research, lab and life sciences teams

Also on-site next door: 9 months at a Richmond biotech lab

Across the river in Richmond, a biological laboratory company has had a TurnFit coach in its workplace gym for nine months, and the program is still running. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the coach trains all 10 executives, two at a time, in back-to-back 48-minute sessions across a four-hour block. It started as a one-month contract and has been extended repeatedly since.

Frequently asked questions

Do you come to Burnaby sites, or do our people travel to you?

We come to you. A TurnFit coach trains your team at your Burnaby office, lab or site, whether that’s a Metrotown or Brentwood tower, a business park, or an industrial facility. We’ve run on-site programs at a Burnaby oil refinery, so shift-based industrial sites are familiar ground.

Can you handle a large workforce, not just a leadership team?

Yes. At a Burnaby oil refinery, our personal training team designed programs for more than 150 staff and ran training Monday to Friday over a couple of months. At the other end of the scale, a Richmond biotech lab has us training its 10 executives, two at a time, three days a week.

Can you work alongside our occupational health or wellness staff?

Yes. At the Burnaby refinery, our trainers worked alongside a nurse and a dietitian to design the staff programs. We’re certified trainers, not clinicians, and we’re comfortable working inside a wider health team.

Our building has a shared tenant gym. Can we use it?

Often, yes, if your building allows outside trainers. Check with your property manager. If the tenant gym doesn’t work, a boardroom or training room with minimal equipment is enough for effective sessions.

Half our team is hybrid. How does on-site training work?

We schedule coaching on your anchor days, when most people are in the office. Monday/Wednesday/Friday is common, and we adjust if your in-office days are different. On remote days, participants get check-ins and short routines. Fully remote staff can use TurnFit’s online coaching.

How do we start, and what does it cost?

We usually start with a short initial contract, for example one month, that you can extend once you’ve seen how your team responds. Standard programs take 2–3 weeks from the first conversation to the first session. On-site corporate training is priced per coach hour: $350 per coach hour for commitments under one month, and $250 per coach hour for commitments of one month or more. Both rates include chat support with your coaches on the days they’re not on-site, and programs designed around your team’s nutrition and workouts, so everyone knows exactly what to do and when. Example: a four-hour on-site block with one coach, like our Richmond lab’s Monday/Wednesday/Friday day covering 10 executives in 2-on-1 sessions, is $1,000 at the $250 rate (4 coach hours × $250).
