So this may be a hard pill for some to swallow, but one of the main reasons a lot of clients and overall gym-goers don’t succeed with their fitness goals is a lack of effort in their training. There is a huge gap in effort between those who reach their goals and those who don’t. I will discuss the main difference between those two groups of people’s attitudes and approaches to their sessions today.
Regardless of how your day has gone so far, within reason, you should come into the gym with a want to better yourself. Because that is all anyone in the gym is trying to do. One way or another. Training is the perfect way to do that. It is an opportunity to be better than you were last week, a chance to be that little bit extra stronger. Each session you should have this attitude, that you are striving to put in the work to better yourself. In a gym sense here what we are talking about is your effort going into each individual rep, set, exercise, and session. You have 60-90 minutes of work, make sure to get the most out of it and actually aim to be as strong, as durable, or as fast as possible. To make significant changes to the body, which most clients do, it takes a lot of hard-ass work. Simply showing up and doing the bare minimum is not going to cut it. You cannot make physical changes to the body this way, and sadly far too many clients have this approach.
Whether the goal is strength, fat loss, hypertrophy, posture-related, sports-related, virtually any goal you can think of, will only be achieved in high calibers if you are approaching your training with enthusiasm, conviction, purpose in what you are doing and showing a willingness to learn and improve. If you can show those attributes in each session you will fast track your results tenfold. Having a lackluster attitude towards your training sessions will result in an end product that will reflect that. These clients are usually the ones who complain or make snide remarks about a lack of results, in the middle of a session where they will undershoot their reps while looking nowhere close to fatigue, ask for longer breaks and mention a lack of energy.
So if you are very serious about achieving your goals, you should nail every inch of every rep you do, ensure you are following every single cue, not rushing any reps, and making every set as good as it possibly can, and as much as you can do (again within reason), and with the most conviction and purpose that you can. Ask questions, look to improve and you will be much more satisfied with your results, but the coaches cannot do this for you. You must dig in, and bring this attitude yourself.
